The Core machines differ from other strength machines in that they deal with very specific, finite movments. They were designed for back rehabilitation purposes. The construction of these machines allows for very small incremental increases in weight, and they are able to provide you with an indicator of measurable range of motion. The machines are built to hold your hips and legs in place. This ensures a direct and linear movement pattern for isolation which keeps you from recruiting other dominant areas of the body. Isolation allows for better focus and quicker healing of injuries.
Injuries need to be approached cautiously and slowly. Therefore, we need to ensure that all participants are medically fit to participate and do not induce any further harm. Proper instruction on the equipment for set up and safety purposes is required. Included in the initial Core program are two 1- hour sessions. The first session is to assess your medical readiness to participate and orient you to the equipment. We will go through a medical questionnaire, discuss your past workout or rehabilitation participation, and discuss your goals in participating in this program. Our orientation will instruct positioning, exercise guidelines, and a degree of comfort and safety by limiting the movements to a safe range of motion. The second session is to ensure complete understanding of the machine setup, all progressions in range of motion, and to complete the entire program. Optional 4 week re-evaluation and program follow-ups are available. The re-evaluation sessions elaborate on the program by making sure goals are being accomplished and adjustments to both exercises and the program are made. Safe progressions in weight usage and range of motion are monitored or changed at this time. This session can be used to instruct and guide participants in choosing exercises that are complimentary to the exercises in the Core Room. Appropriate cardiovascular exercises or strength and flexibility exercises that are not addressed in the Core Room can be taught in order to create a well rounded program. Once you have used the Core exercises to stabilize weak areas, you can build on your workout by adding classes, or broaden your workout to include multi-muscle exercises. It is encouraged to continue using the Core exercises to maintain the stability and strength created after goals are achieved.
