CARDIOVASCULAR AND STRENGTH TRAINING CLASSESThe total body workout includes upper body hand bells and lower body ankle fins to deliver a full body workout that increases muscle tone and strength while burning fat and providing dynamic conditioning. Get your morning started with a mix of step, strength, stretching and abs. A simple, high-intensity group exercise-to-music class that's fully optional to cater to all fitness levels. Experience sports training moves for cardiovascular fitness, along with upper and lower body conditioning exercises for building strength. The revolutionary new weight training workout in a group fitness setting using barbells with adjustable weights, set to motivating music. This is a simple athletic based workout that strengthens, tones and defines every major muscle group in your body...ideal for beginners right through to experienced exercisers. Need to relieve some stress? Try a boxing class and knock out your daily stressors. You are guaranteed to break a sweat. This completely cardiovascular workout will lead you through intervals of cardiovascular training using the Bosu, Step, Cycle, floor, or jump rope interspersed with high volume power and functional core training. A 55-minute cardio and sculpting class using weights, bands and balls. Combine fun and fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work using hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, head to toe stretching, and complete relaxation in a comfortable position. SilverSneakers® 1 - Muscular Strength & Range of Movement Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Come in from the cold and train rain or shine. Athletic based cardio conditioning including running, interval training, plyometrics and some speed work. Interested in increasing your fitness level? Come runners, come all! A precisely choreographed step class to guarantee a FANTASTIC STEPTASTIC workout. A 55-minute workout using weights, bands and balls. INDOOR CYCLING CLASSESPowerpacing/Sunrise Spin/Ultimate Cycle Class names are based on instructor certification. An intense cardiovascular workout incorporating a variety of cycling drills. Towel and water are mandatory; heart rate monitors are recommended - available in the proshop! SPECIALTY CLASSES Learn to fence with John Rea! A 6-week Adult Intro Class is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:30pm. A Kids (10-15) Intro Class is held Wednesdays at 6:30pm. The Fencing Club is held Tues & Thurs 7:30-9pm. Sign up and start at any time at the Reception Desk. Non-members welcome. A 45-minute class using dumbells and/or hand bells and ankle fins. The hottest new workout at the WAC. Come dance away pounds and have fun at the same time! Kid Friendly *KF* Classes These classes are for kids over 12. A parent must accompany children ages 12-15. PILATES AND YOGA CLASSES
This class brings basic flow sequences, flow postures, and breathing techniques to your mat with a focus on compassion and non-competition. You will build flexibility, strength and balance. Variations and modifications will be offered. Basic flow is perfect for those who wish to maintain and build on the strength and flexibility of their existing practice with mindfulness and intention. An introduction to classic yoga postures with a gentle approach. A great place to begin your yoga practice. An introductory mat class (exercises are done on the floor using a yoga mat). Pilates principles are used to strengthen the core (abdominals, lower back and buttocks) and yoga poses are used to enhance overall flexibility. Concludes with a relaxation segment. This is not just a stretch class. A contemporary approach bringing cardiovascular and sports conditioning elements to the traditional yoga class. Yoga experience level 2 or higher required. This is a vinyasa based class focusing on linking breath with movement. Most of the postures in this class are pulled from the ashtanga sequence. You can expect to sweat and physically work but there is always an emphasis on being gentle and finding relaxation in the midst of effort. The focus of Mat Pilates is core conditioning. This class is similar to our Fitness Yoga class with less cardiovascular emphasis. This class is challenging, but you will spend most of the hour on the floor. A Hatha yoga based practice that concentrates on attitude, alignment and action to bring an optimum flow of enery and awareness to help protect and heal muscles, joints and the back. Open to all levels. Acquire discipline while performing the fluid motions of the ancient form of Tai Chi. Balance, stretch and strengthen. Built for the fitness enthusiast - a low impact, great workout for everyone! In this class we will explore the ways in which we can find grace through the flow of movements. You will learn to link your breath with your movements and to bring your body and mind in harmony through your breath. Yogis of all abilities are welcome. PILATES STUDIO (REFORMER/MACHINE) CLASSES **All Classes in the Studio are an extra charge** The WAC Pilates Studio offers pilates training on the IM=X brand reformer tables. The 55-minute guided workout sessions incorporate traditional principals of pilates along with more athletically oriented concepts of strength and flexibility training. Joy, the Studio Director, will be with you every step of the way to help you improve your overall strength, body tone and flexibility. With regular workouts, one can expect an increase in their overall core and abdominal strength. Benefits of practicing reformer Pilates include improved posture, reduced low back pain, stress reduction and 400-500 calories burned per session. The classes are a fast paced, fun and economical way to get a total body workout with a trainer's assistance. There are a variety of time slots and packages available.
